divVerentYESAlthough this may need some more... effort than just trying. I am bad at remembering such things, for example. Maybe we should set up a shared Google calendar at @xonotic.org? We already use Google apps after all...
MrBougoNOI don't think it's worth the effort. Those new members are already welcomed directly in the appropriate forum section, in a way that is more personal to what you propose here.

MirioNOIf they want it, they will post in the forums section. Even in other forums section new members usually get the "Oh hey are you new here? Welcome"-message after their first post. The members who don't post stuff probably won't be reading the "welcome" respectively nor even looking at the board anymore. An automatic Welcome message is something they are going to click (sorta annoyed) away ANYWAY. You can check the game itself. How many players don't even take the time to set a proper nick? They just do "Playerghgh" to get rid of the first screen. tl;dr: Not worth the effort.

SamualNOWOULD_VETO: Firstly, all the things Mirio and MrBougo said... Secondly, how in the shit would that work anyway? Send a personal email to everyone who signs up for the forums? Hell fucking no, ain't nobody got time for that.

zykureYESThe welcome messages should include: - A link to the "Hey, I'm new" section of the forum with the suggestion to make a thread there - Links to halogene's newbie corner and probably some other tutorials (if those exist) - Some general "community guidelines". - Pointers to the most important IRC channels (#xonotic.pickup, #xonotic, #xonotic.de|ru|...) That would be similar to what's used on (german) Wikipedia to greet new users: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benutzer:Zykure/Vorlage:Begr%C3%BC%C3%9Fung2
