User Decision Comment
FreddyNOMany teammembers will never use discord, leaving part of the team locked out of conversations/discussions on discord. The same applies to users. Given its bad privacy and shady practices, it is (in my opinion) no candidate for an official communication platform for free software project. Increased reach should not drive away existing users.
AntibodyNOI'm not a fan of Discord or the company behind it. I'd support Tommy on the team, but that should be raised separately.
bones_was_hereNOI was quite pushy in trying to get a response in the discussion about if Tommy was interested in joining the team, and if he was willing to give the team admin access - but there was no response. Free software people CAN'T use discord, but people who don't care CAN use matrix. Discord arbitrarily bans legitimate users with no recourse, including accounts that own guilds and are used by bridges. Making discord official without bridging it excludes free software users from a supposedly free software project. https://drewdevault.com/2021/12/28/Dont-use-Discord-for-FOSS.html
CloudwalkNOI cannot in good conscience lend, or contribute to lending support to a company with careless privacy and security practices and terrible support, where ever I have a say. In addition, my account was falsely disabled, eliminating 7 years worth of sentimental value and hindering my ability to even moderate the Xonotic Discord.
divVerentABSTAINI will not share my phone number with a proprietary service; in addition Discord is actively free software hostile by banning any third party clients. So I will sure not join Discord and strongly object to it being used for dev discussions. For general player population and maybe even mapping, it should be OK.
HalogeneNOI really do not like privacy ignorant software and would not want to be forced to use it.

LegendGuardABSTAINOn the one hand, I would say that it's "fine" for tournaments, mapping, pickup and language channels and these could be considered official. People participating in the tournaments need to know when they need to meet and prepare, even to form groups. Mapping channel has spent a lot of time talking and discussing how to fix and learn what they needed for editing maps, it has been bridged with IRC and Discord for a long time. On the other hand, I can't assure if this is gonna be safe for privacy and what maintenance is necessary to meet the required conditions.
morosophosNOI think Tommy's discord works fine in its unofficial status and we don't need to change anything about it. Perhaps that discord server needs to have more explicit marking as unofficial and everything would be perfect then. I also think that it's completely fine if there's a big xonotic-related chat without direct control of xonotic team, no need to be too authoritarian about it. I also concur with bones' points.

Spike29ABSTAINI initially voted yes, but the other votes made me reconsider my position. The idea behind the vote was simply to deem the Xonotic Discord as official, mainly to have a unique moderation policy across multiple services (Matrix, IRC, forums...). But as morosophos pointed out, we don't need to control everything (a lot of team members don't have a Discord account anyway) and having an unofficial Xonotic Discord is fine as well. If we ever have moderation issues on the IRC side caused by the Discord/IRC bridge, I guess we can simply talk to Tommy about them. The shady Discord practices pointed out by various team members also should not be ignored, let's encourage open-source softwares and protocols like Matrix/IRC instead.

z411YESWhile I don't support proprietary software and Discord is turning to be increasingly shady, it's a good source for getting new players and it's fairly active. I'd say yes, but with caution.
